Course Overview

Cold chain management is essential for maintaining the integrity of perishable and temperature sensitive products such as pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and food. In today’s interconnected world, cold chain systems are becoming more complex, powered by IoT devices, predictive analytics, and stringent regulatory demands. This course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to design, operate, monitor, and optimize cold chain systems across storage, transport, and distribution.

Course Duration

5 Days

Target Audience

  • Logistics and Supply Chain Managers
  • Warehouse / Distribution Center Managers
  • Pharmaceutical, Biotech & Food Industry Professionals
  • Quality Assurance / Regulatory Compliance Officers
  • Government, NGO Officials, and Public Health Cold Chain Planners

Personal Impact

  • Build competence in setting up and managing cold chain operations.
  • Develop skills in real time monitoring using modern sensor and IoT technologies.
  • Gain confidence in applying regulatory and quality compliance best practices.
  • Lead innovation in cold chain processes by integrating future ready technologies.

Organizational Impact

  • Reduce losses and spoilage through improved temperature control and tracking.
  • Strengthen compliance with global cold chain standards, reducing risk.
  • Improve efficiency in storage and transportation planning.
  • Increase resilience and transparency in cold chain operations using data and digital systems.
Course Level: Foundation

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the fundamentals of cold chain infrastructure, stakeholders, and their roles.
  • Design and manage temperature controlled storage systems and transport across refrigerated networks.
  • Implement monitoring and tracking systems (sensors, data loggers, IoT) to maintain product quality.
  • Navigate and comply with regulatory frameworks (WHO, GDP, HACCP, etc.).
  • Apply risk management strategies to mitigate cold chain disruptions.
  • Leverage emerging technologies, including AI, blockchain, and sustainable refrigeration, to modernize cold chain operations.

Course Outline

Module 1: Fundamentals of Cold Chain Logistics

  • Overview of cold chain systems: actors, infrastructure, and processes
  • Understanding critical temperature ranges for different product classes
  • Key risks in cold chain logistics and their business impact
  • Stakeholder mapping and the role of different players in the cold chain
  • Exercise: Map out a cold chain network for a product of your choice, highlighting critical control points and risk areas.
